911 call catches woman's screams as her car is slammed by husband

BELLMEAD, TX (KXXV) -

A rocky divorce leads to a bumpy ride as the husband slams his vehicle into his wife's car while she's on the phone with police.

A woman called 911 saying her husband was chasing her down the interstate in Bellmead Tuesday afternoon. It turns out the couple were in the process of a divorce according to detective Mike Miller. As the woman talks with dispatch, the husband is accused of ramming his car into hers.

"I am going to pull into the Bellmead Walmart.  My husband is on I-35 following me trying to run me off the road," the wife said in the 911 recording.

Police say 42 year old Phillip Zavala Lujan was the man in the car. He's now charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The 911 recording continued with the woman sounding more and more frantic. She says in the recording Lujan rammed into her car multiple times. She even screamed in fright, pleading for help from the police.

Police say Lujan did eventually drive away and the woman was not seriously injured. Police were able to contact Lujan over the phone and convinced him to turn himself in. He eventually agreed and went straight to the McLennan County Jail.

No other cars on the interstate or the parking lot were damaged.
