Area man sentenced to life in prison for home invasion and sexual assault

FALLS COUNTY, TX (KXXV) -

A man has been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of a 2012 home invasion and sexual assault.

Daymond Lamont Stewart had originally been charged in two separate home invasions, but a jury only found him guilty of one that occurred in October 2012.

The home invasion happened at a home on Foster St. in Marlin. Stewart was found guilty of breaking into the house and immediately smashing the victim in the face and forcing her into sexual activity.

He was sentenced to life in prison on the sexual assault charge and 60 years on the charge of burglary of a habitation with intent of theft.

Falls County District Attorney Jody Gilliam says in both cases in which he was accused, victims were not able to make positive identifications.

In the case for which he was convicted, crime lab recovery of DNA and fingerprints led to his identification and conviction.
