Traffic stop turns into drug bust

WACO -

A traffic stop turned into a drug bust after officers found over a half pound of cocaine while searching a Waco man's car.

Rodolfo Cruz, 25, faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance and because he had his 3-year-old with him, an additional charge of endangering a child was filed against him.

Police say the traffic stop was made in the 3900 block of North 20th at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday night. Cruz was pulled over in a Ford Mustang.

Officers searched the car after finding something they described as strange about the vehicle identification number on the car.

While searching the car, police found over a half pound of powder cocaine. They estimate the cocaine has a street value of almost $40,000.

Cruz is being held in the McLennan County Jail. The additional charge of endangering a child was filed because he had his 3-year-old son in proximity to the drugs.
