McLennan county moves forward with redistricting plan

McLennan County is moving forward with a redistricting plan for its justice precincts.  Commissioners voted to hire a local legal team to come up with the plan, which is expected to cost about $25,000.

County Judge Scott Felton says other communities have been successful scaling back.  They think the same could be done in McLennan County.

Felton says, "Right now we're scattered out across the county. there's a possibility we can serve them better having fewer JP's and head constables and having more support behind them."

Although today's vote comes shortly after the resignation of Justice of the Peace Jean Laster Boone, Felton says the redistricting discussion has been going on for awhile.

He did add the recent vacancy has helped commissioners realize that four JP's are perfectly capable of handling the community's needs.

Commissioner Lester Gibson chose to abstain from voting on this issue.
