Local supermarket receives smoke damage from fire

WACO, TX (KXXV) -

A Waco supermarket received smoke damage from a fire that the Fire Marshal is listing as accidental.

The call came in about 11 p.m. Wednesday night about a fire at the Superplaza on N 25th St. in Waco.

The fire started in the back and caused smoke damage to the entire store. Investigators are not sure how much merchandise was lost, but they say smoke was throughout the store.

The Fire Marshal says the fire is listed as accidental and the fire started because of a water heater.

No one was in the store at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

The Fire Marshal says the fire is not connected to the sentencing of Marco Polo Medina-Gonzalez earlier on Wednesday.

Medina-Gonzalez was found guilty of kidnapping a supermarket employee during a robbery of Superplaza in 2012 and sentenced to 80 years.
