Road back open after gas leak fixed

Posted:
WACO -

An area street was closed for a few hours after a gas line was hit about noon on Thursday.

Hewitt Dr. was closed near Panther Way and Jim Dr. after the gas leak was reported. Atmos Energy arrived on the scene and fixed the problem.

The gas leak was caused by a private contractor digging into a 4 inch gas line shortly before noon.

Hewitt Elementary School and Midway Middle School was put on a soft lockdown, according to a Midway ISD spokesperson. All activities continued as usual, but nobody was allowed to leave the school during the lockdown.
