Sculptor "lends a hand" to broken angel

An armless angel is now looking brand new after vandals threw it to the ground at a local cemetery.

The "Cooper" angel was one of several statues vandalized at the Oakwood Cemetery in Waco back in January. The angel lost a portion of its arms and hands when it hit the ground. Now a local sculptor gave it new limbs and he reattached it this week.

The cemetery says they're happy to get it fixed.

"There's nothing worse than having a broken finger on a statue, it's defacing the cemetery. And if we can at all repair that we will," Oakwood Cemetery manager John Hubble said.

Members of the community donated cameras to the cemetery to help deter future vandals. Police still have not found those responsible.

Officials say the Cooper statue was installed in the cemetery in the late 20's, early 30's. It's one of three angels, all look identical. The Cooper statue is the original though, and was installed in memory of a child who died in 1894. The angel looks down on the girl's grave site.

Rolando Saenz sculpted the hands that went on the angel.
