Several in suspected burglary ring in custody after home search

Multiple people in a suspected burglary ring are now in police custody after a swat team recovers stolen property in a home search.

Waco police believe these people are responsible for several burglaries in the North Waco and China Spring area. Police say they believe this ring is responsible for four or five home burglaries in those areas in just the past few weeks.

Around 10:30 Tuesday morning Waco PD's swat and burglary detective unit searched a home on the 1500 block of Washington lane in McLennan County, less than a mile from Bosqueville Elementary School.

Guns were drawn and at least two people were taken into custody without incident before officers began their search.

Inside the home, investigators were able to find stolen property including a musical instrument and jewelry. They haven't recovered everything just yet.

Waco Police Spokesman Sgt. Patrick Swanton says they're still looking for several guns that were also reported as stolen from those homes.

"Obviously we want to get those firearms off the streets so they don't fall into the hand of the wrong people or become involved in additional criminal activity," said Sgt. Swanton. "But the property we did get this morning will be returned to the owners and the good thing is that some of it was jewelry and as you know a lot of times jewelry has a sentimental value that just is hard to replace."

Police aren't yet releasing the names of the people they have in custody because they haven't been arrested yet, but those involved could face both state and federal charges.

Authorities are confident they will be able to clear this series of burglaries soon.
