McLennan Co. JP Pleads Guilty to Tampering Charges, Resigns

WACO -

McLennan County Justice of the Peace Jean Laster Boone has entered a guilty plea to felony counts of tampering with government records and officially resigned.

Laster Boone resigned after appearing in court Tuesday and turned in the key to her office. She admitted to falsifying mileage reimbursement forms that paid her the maximum amount of mileage fees.

She will undergo a pre-sentence investigation and then a judge will decide on a punishment once that's completed.

"She entered her plea. Her resignation will be effective immediately, and other than that I don't want to comment any further because it is still a pending matter," said Abel Reyna, McLennan County District Attorney. "She still has a sentencing coming up."

The McLennan County District Attorney's Office is recommending she receive deferred adjudication probation and pay $5,120 in restitution.

The charges are third degree felonies punishable by up to ten years in prison.
