Texas trial draws attention of gun advocates

BELTON, Texas (AP) - A Central Texas jury continues deliberations in the trial of a Fort Hood soldier arrested for carrying an assault rifle in public.

Deliberations continue Friday after about eight hours Thursday in the Belton trial of Army Master Sgt. Christopher Grisham. Gun-rights advocates eagerly await the verdict in a Bell County misdemeanor court.

Grisham is charged with misdemeanor interference with the duties of an officer. A Temple police officer responding to a report of a man carrying an assault rifle arrested Grisham in March.

Grisham was hiking with his 15-year-old son, who was working on a Boy Scout merit badge. The officer has testified he worried about Grisham's reaction after approaching him.

A video of their confrontation being arrested by a police officer was posted online.
