Troy Coaches, Players OK After Bus Crash With Big Rig

TROY -

Players and coaches are recovering from minor injuries after a Troy ISD school bus collided with an 18-wheeler on the I-35 access road Thursday night.

Troy police said 11 people, including the coach who was driving the bus, were taken to Scott & White hospital in Temple with minor injuries.

Varsity head coach Jay Seibert confirmed to News Channel 25 the bus had 35 players and coaches from the 8th grade team on board, and all of them are okay. Coaches Buzzy Gover and Benny Carr were treated and released.

Seibert said the bus was going across the bridge over I-35 in Troy when the accident happened. The team was returning from a game in Salado earlier that evening.

First responders set up a triage center at the First Baptist Church of Troy immediately after the accident, which happened about 9 p.m. All parents and school officials were immediately notified.

Troy police say they expect their investigation to be completed sometime Friday morning and will release more information at that time.
