Man accused of trying to hit pedestrian

Temple police have arrested a man who crashed into a tree after allegedly trying to hit another person with his vehicle on August 17.

60-year-old David Monroe Sanders, of Temple, was arrested Wednesday and has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for an incident that occurred just after 3 a.m. on August 17, in Temple.

Officers were dispatched to a crash at Monticello Road and Crockett Court about 3:09 a.m. on August 17. After arriving on the scene, officers saw a man, later identified as Sanders, being taken out of a vehicle that had crashed into a tree.

Another person on the scene told officers that Sanders had been driving his vehicle very fast on Industrial, while he had his headlights on high beam. The victim told police Sanders continued to follow him.

The victim reportedly got out of his car to speak with Sanders, and then Sanders allegedly drove toward the victim. The victim said he was able to get out of the way and barely missed being hit, but Sanders' vehicle rammed into the victim's car.

Both vehicles were damaged and a person in the victim's car reportedly suffered minor injuries during the incident.

Police say Sanders attempted to flee the scene, but crashed into a tree. The case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney's Office on August 23, who then issued a complaint against Sanders.
