US Highway 79 back open after train derailment

US Highway 79 is now open after a train derailment happened Wednesday afternoon.

US 79, just south of Jewett at the Nucor Plant, was closed because four cars derailed off the track. No injuries have been reported. Emergency crews worked to clean up the area. The train has been put back on the tracks.

Wednesday night, one lane of traffic was open on US 79 that was controlled by flaggers. The other lane suffered pavement damage from one of the cars. Crews have been working nonstop to repair the lane. TxDot says both lanes will reopen by midnight Thursday.
