TEMPLE -

A man who barricaded himself inside his home for nearly two hours, peacefully turned himself over to police just before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities have identified the man as Joshua Ruben Rivera. He was barricaded in a home on 205 Loop St. in Temple.

Temple police say Rivera was being investigated for family violence. Police were going to serve a warrant, but he found out and then barricaded himself in his home.

Rivera allegedly told a friend that he had a weapon and was going to hurt himself. Authorities were not able to confirm whether he had a gun, but created a perimeter for the safety of the neighborhood.

After being on the phone with police for nearly two hours, Rivera peacefully turned himself over to police.

Rivera has been charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member and injury to a child, elderly individual, or disabled individual, with intent to cause serious bodily injury. His bond has been set at $35,000 for the two charges.
