Bell County investigating possible murder of elderly man

Posted:
BELL COUNTY -

A man is found dead and his home torn apart as authorities investigate a murder.

The Bell County Sheriff's Office says the Killeen fire department found the man at 17635 FM 439 just east of Killeen just after 6:00 Saturday morning. He's identified as 83 year old Jack B. Ray and was pronounced dead by Bell County Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke.

Investigators say the house had been "ransacked" and Ray was found in the backyard. The family is currently trying to figure out what might be missing. Investigators say an autopsy will be performed Sunday morning which may answer a lot of unanswered questions.

There are no suspects at this time, but this is a murder investigation. Sheriff Eddy Lange says Ray had been a longtime friend and will be greatly missed.

If you have any information about this death you're asked to call the Bell County Sheriff's Department Criminal Investigation Division at 254-933-6759.
