Police arrest man accused of stealing more than $20,000 from business

WACO - UPDATE: Christopher James Malik has been sentenced to seven years, but it was probated to five years. Malik was also ordered to make restitution by paying all the money he stole back.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested after police say he was involved in a scheme to take more than $20,000 from a loan company where he worked.

Christopher James Malik has been charged with theft over $20,000 after being arrested Tuesday.

Investigators say it appears Malik set up fake loan accounts to take money, and then set up more fake accounts to pay off the other fake loan accounts. Police say this eventually resulted in a loss of $20,288 for the business.

Police say they worked with loss prevention personnel with Cash America during the investigation into the alleged actions taken by Malik.

The investigation began September 10 with a warrant being obtained and Malik was arrested October 8.
