Charges upgraded for man accused of injuring two officers

A large scale manhunt is now over for the man accused of sending two Texas Game Warden officers to the hospital on October 4, as authorities have captured him in Freestone County.

44-year-old Teddy Davenport is now in custody at Limestone County Jail after being captured in Freestone County. He was found two miles southeast of Teague, on FM 1451.

He has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer and one misdemeanor charge of evading arrest.

UPDATE: The two aggravated assault charges have been upgraded to aggravated assault of a public servant with a deadly weapon and bond was set at $500,000 for each count. His total bond for the three charges has been set at $1,015,000.

Police say Davenport was involved in a chase that began late Friday night, in Limestone County. The chase began after two Texas Game Wardens caught him burglarizing a home on Cottonwood Creek Road, just outside of Mart city limits.

According to police, when they tried to pull him over he sped off down Farm to Market Road 342.

Police say during the pursuit, Davenport and a passenger were shinning bright lights at the officers and even shot at them with a riffle causing them to crash. One officer suffered minor injuries and the other was taken to the hospital to undergo surgery for a dislocated hip.

The Texas Game Wardens, U.S. Marshal's Office, Mart Police and McLennan County and Limestone County Sheriff's Offices are worked together to find Davenport.

Davenport was given six years probation for a similar incident in May. He was arrested after leading Mart police on a chase that left an officer injured. Investigators later found that Davenport has a history of evading police.

Sheriff's deputies from Freestone, Limestone and McLennan counties, the Texas Department of Public Safety, including the agency's aviation unit, TDCJ, McLennan County Constable Precinct 1, Limestone County Constable Precinct 5 and the Teague Police Department all helped in the manhunt and investigation.

UPDATE: Three more people have been arrested by Texas Game Wardens as part of their investigation after the capture of Davenport.

44-year-old Michael Duane Daniel of Fairfield, 37-year-old William A. "Trey" Davidson III of Teague and 37-year-old Tanja Marie Lee of Mexia, were all arrested about 8:30 p.m. on Monday.

The arrests came after officers searched a home two miles southeast of Teague, on FM 1451. All three were charged with hindering the apprehension of a fugitive and possession of methamphetamine.

No bond had been set as of Tuesday morning, and all three were being held in the Freestone County Jail in Fairfield.
