Driver dead after semi overturns on I-35

An 18-wheeler overturned just after 6 a.m. Thursday morning, on I-35 near West, and DPS Officials say they have found a burned body and have confirmed that it is the driver of the 18-wheeler.

According to DPS Officials, the ruptured saddle tanks caught the cab of the 18-wheeler on fire. The semi overturned in the northbound lanes of I-35, near mile marker 355.

DPS says the truck was driving and began weaving in the road. The truck then drove into a concrete barrier and landed in a ditch.

The cab was completely destroyed by the fire and the trailer was severely damaged.  Officials say the 48-year-old driver died as a result of the accident, but they have not been able to identify who it is.

The semi was carrying avocados and caused a mess near the highway. The left lane on the northbound side of I-35 is the only lane open and traffic is moving slowly. DPS says the clean up should be done sometime in the afternoon.
