Waco Man Pawns Rented Items from Aaron's and Easyhome

WACO -

A Central Texas man is behind bars accused of pawning items he rented from two stores in Waco.

Joe Edward Tubbs, Jr. was arrested for not paying his rental bills. According to an arrest affidavit, Tubbs spent around $5,500 dollars renting multiple TV's, a dryer, computer and a blue-ray player from Aaron's and Easyhome.

The two stores say he signed rental agreements and would not return the equipment items after he stopped making payments. The stores sent him demand letters and he even signed off on the return receipt. Allegedly all the equipment had been pawned at three different shops.

Tubbs is now charged with theft of service. Police say these scenarios are very common.

The owner of Easyhome, Matthew Holman, issued a statement in regards to this situation:

"I think that most, if not all, of the customers who come into our stores, come in with good intentions with a  true need or desire to obtain quality, name brand products at the guaranteed lowest prices they otherwise would not be able to immediately afford, but somewhere down the line they run into tough times and may somewhat be embarrassed to discuss the situation that they feel may be under their control. Most of the time the customer feels they will be able to pull out of that negative situation without having to confront it, but then at some point make a bad decision, and are not able to overcome the adversity and resort to not paying, pawning , filing false reports or selling  the merchandise. Most of the time I think the intention is to overcome the adversity and get back on track, but have put themselves in a situation where they are more willing to take the risk or even punishment that fits the crime down the road, instead of just  talking about it with the store staff and allowing us to do what we do best and help them. We are in the " Helping and Caring" business too.  We truly appreciate our customers and understand that there may be uncomfortable times for them, but we are here to help and want to help, we just need communication and that is the most important aspect to get over that hurdle. We will all pay for our mistakes at some point, why not make the morally right decisions in the first place.

Easyhome has received some items back, but others were sold off. The McLennan County District Attorney's office and the police have helped the store recover some items.
