WEST, TX (KXXV) -

Hundreds of volunteers from churches around the state helped cleanup in West, Saturday.

They cleared debris off empty lots and did some landscaping to get homes ready to start rebuilding.

More than five months after the deadly explosion Kevin Taylor from the met church says they knew a trip to west was needed.

"We just knew there was going to be a need for service out here and this is about the time when all the service stops. So we just really felt compelled to make it part of our annual activity of what we call the big serve," says Taylor.

Three hundred volunteers were from the First Baptist Church of Woodway were out at different site around town working on different projects but smaller groups traveled from Round Rock and Fort Worth to lend a hand.
