One arrested after several decomposing dog bodies found outside possible drug house

UPDATE: McGregor P.D. confirms that Brandon Smith has been arrested in connection with this case.

Officers found the decaying remains of several dogs outside of a possible drug house in McGregor on Tuesday.

McGregor PD received a call at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon about a smell of decay coming from a house in the 100 block of Rodgers St.

When they arrived at the home, officers noticed a strong smell of decaying remains in a trash bin. They found decomposing flesh and blood of dogs inside the bin.

After searching the area, they found several more decaying dog bodies that had been chained to trees. Several dog bones were also found in a cleared field behind the home.

After a search warrant was obtained, officers entered the house. They seized scales, packaging material, ledger notes, plastic bags with residue and a small amount of marijuana from the house.

Officers also discovered that the water meter had been tampered with and the residents were getting utilities illegally.

Arrest warrants for animal cruelty, possession of marijuana and theft are expected to be filed at a later date. The names of the suspects are being withheld pending further investigation.
