Man pleads guilty to 2012 murder in Bruceville-Eddy

Monday, in 19th District Court, a man pleaded guilty to killing his ex-girlfriend back in April 2012.

Jerry William Borchardt pleaded guilty to the murder of Carol Jean Wagner. Sentencing is set to begin next week and testimony will be heard before the punishment is handed down.

Carol Wagner's son found Wagner's body wrapped in a blanket inside her home back. A medical examiner says Wagner was suffocated and police say Borchardt covered her face with a pillow.

Borchardt was on parole at the time of his arrest. He had been given a life sentence for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in Smith County, back in 1981.

Prior to that, he had been given probation for auto theft in Garland, and had other larceny charges. He was given a one year sentence for forgery in McLennan County and had at least one parole violation sentence prior to his arrest on the murder charge.
