Meth lab caught in act and suspects on the run

A strange odor led to a meth lab getting caught in the act in a local town and the cookers are on the run.

Neighbors called the McLennan County Sheriff's office at around 10 p.m. Tuesday night for a suspicious smell. When deputies got a search warrant, they found a working meth lab on Dalrex Road in Lorena.

Deputies questioned and released two people who were inside a front trailer. Multiple other people were also in a trailer behind that, but the Sheriff's Office says they got away and are still at large.

McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara says the lab was like one that could have been found decades ago and is different from the current trend of making meth. He says he was surprised to find a working lab.

Investigators though say they're happy to get rid of this lab that could have been producing for more than a year.

"You're going to make the community just that much safer. These people are dangerous people, they're putting poison out there on the street and we're going to do what we can here at the Sheriff's Department to stop it."

A Dallas hazmat unit came down to take a part the lab Tuesday night. Deputies and the unit worked for nearly ten hours to clear the scene.

The Sheriff's Office also seized an undisclosed amount of meth, weapons and one car.
