WACO, TX (KXXV) -

UPDATE: Regina Antionette Edwards pleaded guilty to improper sexual activity with a person in custody in 54th District Court Thursday, April 2, 2014.

She is set to be sentenced at a later date following a background investigation.

Three employees of the Jack Harwell Detention Center have been arrested following two separate investigations by the McLennan County Sheriff's Office.

In one of the cases, 40-year-old Sherry Lynn Haynes was charged with prohibited substance in a correctional facility. The investigation was into how a prisoner at the facility came into possession of cigarettes.

The other investigation had to do with allegations of improper sex acts with a person in custody. Following the investigation, arrest warrants were obtained for 22-year-old Dorothy Pennington and 47-year-old Regina Edwards.

All three turned themselves in after warrants were obtained and all three women were employees of a contractor that operates the Jack Harwell Center, and not county employees.

UPDATE: Pennington pleaded guilty to the charge of improper sexual activity with a person in custody on November 18. She will be sentenced following background investigation.

UPDATE: A McLennan County Grand Jury returned an indictment against Regina Antoinette Edwards for improper sexual activity with a person in custody.
