Man sentenced to 12 months in jail for eating dog while on drugs

A jury came down with a sentence for the man who pleaded guilty to killing and eating a family dog while he was under the influence of drugs.

Michael Terron Daniel was sentenced to 12 months state jail on Wednesday, after pleading guilty to animal cruelty.

He was charged for an incident back on June 14, 2012, in which he killed and ate a dog. Daniel was under the influence of spice, or K-2, during the incident.

Jury selection began on Tuesday for the trial in 19th District Court. Testimony and closing arguments continued on Wednesday.

Daniel also faces another charge of aggravated assault and he is set to go on trial for that charge separately.

Here is a statement from the McLennan County District Attorney's Office about the trial:

"The defendant's actions were dangerous and deadly. No animal deserves to be brutally treated the way this defendant treated him. We appreciate the jury's verdict in sending a clear message that this type of behavior and these types of actions will not be tolerated in McLennan County."
