Couple accused of stealing more than $20,000 worth of jewelry from area home

TEMPLE - UPDATE: Rachel Marie Tello has been given ten years probation for a charge of theft of property over $20,000.

A Temple couple has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than $20,000 worth of jewelry from a home one of them was hired to clean.

38-year-old Rachel Marie Tello and her husband, 27-year-old James Asher Daugherty, were both charged with theft over $20,000.

On July 25, the victims reported to police that numerous pieces of jewelry had been taken from their home. Police were told the pieces of jewelry were all well hidden in the home and there were no indications of forced entry.

The victims told police that the only other people who had access to their home, was the cleaning person, Tello, and her husband, Daugherty.

While investigating, officers determined that Tello would allegedly take the jewelry while she was supposed to be cleaning. Police say Tello would take the jewelry to Daugherty to pawn.

A criminal complaint was issued after the case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney's Office on September 5. Daugherty and Tello were both charged with theft over $20,000, but less than $100,000.

Temple Police arrested Daugherty on August 2 and Tello turned herself into the Bell County Jail on Monday.
