School bus driver trapped after bus accident in Bruceville-Eddy, multiple injuries

BRUCEVILLE-EDDY, TX (KXXV) -

The driver of a Bruceville-Eddy school bus was taken to the hospital after being trapped in the school bus, following a collision with a dump truck Monday afternoon sending multiple children to the hospital.

The accident took place near mile marker 318 on the I-35 access road by the rest stop around 3:45pm.

Six children were taken to the hospital and 12-15 suffered minor injuries. Authorities say there were around 60 children riding the bus ranging in grades from elementary to high school.

All of the students on the bus have been accounted for.

The driver of the school bus was trapped after the accident and has been taken to the hospital by helicopter. Her family member told News Channel 25 that she suffered two broken legs and she remains in good condition.

Police say a teachers aid who was on the bus was thrown during impact and her injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. She was taken to a local hospital.

The driver of the truck was OK and police were questioning him at the scene. After, he was taken to a nearby hospital to be examined.

Parents fled to the scene to pick up their children and to make sure they were OK.

The school bus was from the Bruceville-Eddy school district.
