McGregor official found dead in city hall

Posted:
MCGREGOR -

McGregor city leaders are in shock after one of their own committed suicide after Thursday's city council meeting.

Sixty year-old Brent Bower had just spoken to the council before the tragic incident.

Bower's body was found inside city hall by another city employee last night.

Bower was the city's Finance Director and had been working for McGregor for more than four years.

A source close to Bower told News Channel 25 Bower had spoken in front of the city council about the new tax rate. When he finished, he returned to his seat and while later, got up and left.

Others at the meeting believed bower was just going to make a call.

Instead bower apparently walked the one block down Madison Road to city hall where he shot and killed himself. No one at the meeting heard the gun shot.

McGregor City Manager Kevin Evans released a statement today regarding the tragic incident.

"It is never easy to lose a friend, much less a family member.

We at the City of McGregor have lost both. City Finance Director Brent Bower ended his life Thursday evening, September 12. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and we ask that you respect the privacy of his family during this time of mourning," said Evans.

McGregor's City Municipal Building was closed for the day.

Bower is survived by his wife and two daughters.
