COPPERAS COVE -

The Fort Hood bomb squad has been in a Copperas Cove neighborhood twice this week.

On Thursday, the Fort Hood soldier suspected of having bomb-making components made an appearance in federal court in Waco.

This soldier is accused of having not one, but several dangerous devices.

He had parts to make pipe bombs, but also a homemade anti personnel devices, designed to maim or kill people.

Garthwaite was arraigned today in Federal court in Waco and he's staying behind bars without bond.

Tuesday night, which also was the eve of 9/11, the FBI, the ATF and the Fort Hood bomb squad arrived in front of a home on the corner of 7th and Meggs street.

On Wednesday, authorities arrested  Garthwaite on felony charges of possession of a destructive device and endangering a child who was in the home.

Wednesday night, the FBI, ATF, bomb squad and police made a second appearance at the same house.

Police said they had to do more investigating.

We got the arrest affidavit today and learned agents found eight pipes and three pounds of Pyrodex powder found in a gym bag belonging to Garthwaite.

Investigators also found components to manufacture several more anti-personnel devices.

Agents also reviewed text messages between Garthwaite and his wife Stephanie Garthwaite.

In those texts, Garthwaite directs his wife to prepare to hide the bag with the pipes and powder because he was about to be interviewed by law enforcement.

Spc. Jason Garthwaite Sr. is assigned to Fort Hood in the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. He entered the service in February 2010 and arrived at Fort Hood in August 2010. His Military Occupation Specialty is infantryman.
