7-Month-Old Harker Heights Girl Found After Abduction, No Charges Filed

The 7-month-old Harker Heights girl who was abducted from her foster home by her biological mother has been found and no charges will be filed against the mother at this time.

At around 3 P.M. on Thursday, CheKenya Windham was taken into custody on Fort Hood by the Harker Heights Police Department where she then led officers to the location of her biological daughter.

At around 4 P.M., Harker Heights police officers located 7-month-old Kyndle Windham in the 900 block of Adams in Killeen.

Police say they found the baby after Windham had previously visited the foster home where her daughter was being cared for and took the baby.

"At the time, she had come over for a custodial visit, and, within the time frame of that visit, she took the child and fled the area," Harker Heights spokesperson Sgt. Roosevelt Wilson said.

Police then issued an Amber alert for the missing girl, and, at one point, police believed that the mother was fleeing with her daughter to another state.

Officials have not disclosed why Windham abducted the baby, but at this time, the baby is in the care of Child Protective Services.
