MCLENNAN COUNTY -

Police arrested a man after he wrecked his car into a pole while fleeing the scene of an incident in which he is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

Dennis Carrau was taken to McLennan County Jail and faces multiple charges for an incident that happened in the 5800 block of Kingman on Tuesday just before 1 a.m.

Officers responded to a disturbance call and as they arrived, they saw a man, later identified as Carrau, running from the home. He got in a blue 2007 Chevy Silverado and fled the scene.

Carrau later wrecked into a steel pole in the 200 block of Hewitt Dr. He was checked out by paramedics at the scene and did not sustain any injuries from the wreck.

After the accident, officers looked into the incident and were told Carrau was waiting for his ex-girlfriend to get home and when she did, he punched her in the head. The victim ran into her home to get away, but Carrau followed her and continued to assault her.

Carrau took the phone away from her when she tried to call police. The victim's 12-year-old son was in the home and was able to call police while his mother was being assaulted.
