Odor causes evacuation of area middle school

Students are now back in class after being evacuated from Palo Alto Middle School Tuesday morning.

The school, located in the 2300 block of West Elms Road in Killeen, was evacuated after people noticed an odor as students began arriving to school Tuesday morning.

Fire units were dispatched to the scene and firefighters checked the school for the source of the odor.

Crews found that an overheated air conditioning unit was the cause of the odor. Part of the AC unit had melted, which created the smell.

No smoke or flames were seen coming from the building, only an odor coming from the east side of the building.

Classes were delayed, but school is now back in session.
