Cadaver dogs searching area where bodies found in Hewitt

HEWITT -

Cadaver dogs are now searching the area where two sets of human bones were found in Hewitt.

The two sets of bones are now in Dallas for autopsies.  The remains of those two people were found in Hewitt Friday evening.

The Travis County Search and Rescue Team have 4 dogs searching the area between Alliance Parkway and Sun Valley Boulevard Thursday morning.

Authorities still don't have much information at this point.  Police don't know who these people are, where they came from or how they got there.

Of course, the hope is that all of that information will be uncovered during the investigation. If the dogs find anything, the search team will mark the spots for Hewitt Police to investigate later.

Police say there are no open missing persons cases in Hewitt, so they're widening the search.  They are investigating these deaths as a crime, but aren't ruling out any possibilities.

Essentially, this is a case that's taken police by surprise.

Hewitt Police Chief Jim Devlin says, "It was kind of an overwhelming feeling. You normally don't get these types of calls in the city of Hewitt.  We knew the importance of it.  We knew that we had to get on it right away and deal with it and try to figure out what exactly it is that we have."

A group of people who live in the area stumbled upon the remains.  All evidence recovered was found above ground.

Experts may also be brought in to see if there's anything underground that may help with the case. As for the actual skeletons, autopsy results won't be back for four to six weeks.

Preliminary results from Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences show that one of the victims is a white male, between the ages of 45 and 55 and between 5'2" and 5'7". The second victim is a white male, between the ages of 35 and 45 and between 5'9 and 6' 3" tall.

The deaths are being investigated as homicides and believed to have happened more than 6 months ago.
