China Spring churches broken into and burglarized

Three churches were broken into and burglarized in China Spring and the suspects are still on the loose.

Grace Baptist Church, First Baptist Church and a Pentecostal church were all broken into in the month of August. Detective James Pack with the McLennan County Sheriff's Office says the suspects broke in and stole thousands worth of property. That included speakers, a sound board, a guitar, a computer and cash.

"I just can't believe that somebody would actually break into a church or do anything in a church other than worship," Pack said.

Pack says the burglaries may be related because of the similarities in how they broke in and what was stolen.

Erik Emblem is a pastor at Grace Baptist Church. He says the suspects broke into the back door breaking the glass. They then went around the church looking for cash, ransacking rooms and stealing around $1,000 worth of sound equipment Emblem said.

Emblem says he was very surprised when he got the call about the break-in, but neither him or the congregation were very affected.

"Thankfully the people were understanding we just did the best we could without it. I told the people hey it's just stuff it's all replaceable, pray for the people who took it that's the best we can do," Emblem said.

Emblem says insurance should cover most of what is stolen.

Pack says they do have leads, but no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
