Store owner chases after suspect following robbery

A shop owner chased after a suspect following a robbery at a local gift shop Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called out to the 1900 block of Park Lake Dr. just after 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. They had received a report that a shop owner was seen chasing a person down the street.

Officers arrived on the scene and were told that a black man in his mid 20s entered the Park Lake Gift Shop and walked around as if he was shopping. After a few minutes, the man pulled a knife, put it to the female attendant's throat and demanded money.

The suspect got an undisclosed amount of cash and walked out of the store. He was seen heading south on N 20th St. The victim ran outside and started screaming for help.

The owner of the Tobacco Shop next door came out to see what was going on. The shop owner had a pistol and chased after the suspect. During the chase, the suspect turned and pointed what was believed to be a pistol at the shop owner.

The suspect continued running and was seen getting into the passenger side of a black Mitsubishi that was parked on the side of the road next to Bush's Chicken. The vehicle was last seen heading south on N 19th.

The suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall man who is very dark complected. He was wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans at the time of the robbery.

Anyone with information about this incident are asked to call the Waco Police Department at 750-7500 or Waco Crime Stoppers at 753-HELP (4357).
