Football Ranked 23rd In AP Top 25 Poll

Bears move into top 25, after opening-week win.

WACO, Texas – Baylor football is back in the AP Top 25 Poll for a fourth consecutive season, ranking 23rd with 150 points in this week's poll released on Tuesday.

BU (1-0) opened the season with a 69-3 victory over FCS-power Wofford on Saturday at Floyd Casey Stadium. In that game, the Bears set a stadium record for points and recorded the third-most yards in program history (692).

The move into the top 25 for Baylor comes after receiving votes in the AP preseason poll (27th, 92 points).

Last season, Baylor peaked at No. 25 in the AP poll on Sept. 23, 2012, following a 3-0 start to the year.

Before its current four-year streak of being ranked, BU had gone 16 seasons without making the top 25.  The four-year stretch of being ranked is the first since being listed in five consecutive seasons from 1953-57. The Bears highest ranking in that four-year stretch was 12th on Dec. 4, 2011.

In the USA Today Coaches Poll, BU is receiving votes and is the first team out of the top 25. The Bears have moved up three spots and 35 points from their preseason position in that poll.

Baylor now hosts Buffalo in the second game of a four-game homestand on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. That game will be broadcast on FSN.
