Passenger bus catches fire blocking traffic for miles

Traffic was backed up for miles after a bus caught fire on southbound I-35.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson D.L. Wilson says the passenger bus was going south bound in Bruceville-Eddy on the 316 mile marker when the tires blew. Wilson says that could have possibly led to engine lines being knocked loose which then led to a massive fire.

The driver pulled over just before noon and luckily no one else was on the bus. The fire quickly spread completely engulfing the entire back section of the bus. Local fire departments responded and it took them 30 minutes to douse the flames.

Wilson says they had to block the interstate for about an hour and traffic was backed up for around 15 miles. All lanes were eventually opened shortly after 2:30. There were no injuries reported.

The bus was on its way to Austin for the University of Texas football game.
