Fire breaks out in Temple Apartments

Six families are being displaced to different apartments after losing their own apartment homes to a fire Friday night.

Temple Fire Department responded to a call at 7:17 PM for a fire at 40101 W. Adams Wildwood Apartments in Temple.

Officials say the fire was caused by food left unattended on the stove.  The fire originated on the second floor and began to spread throughout the apartments.

It took firefighters approximately one hour to put out the fire.

Temple Deputy Chief Captain Scott Hoelschur credits the first fire team who arrived on scene for battling the fire and preventing it from further spreading.  He is also thankful for the individual who made the urgent 911 call.

"Five or so minutes and that fire would have gotten in front of us.  It was a good chance we wouldn't have been able to stop it before we lost the entire complex. So the individual whoever called it in, did a wonderful job by giving us a chance to get in front of  the fire," said Hoelshur.

Six apartments were damaged total; two suffered from heavy flame and smoke damage while four suffered from water damage.

One fire fighter suffered from smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene.  No individuals were injured but one pet dog is dead due to smoke inhalation.

Six fire engines were at the scene and as many as five police officers arrived at the scene.

Those families are being displaced to other apartments within the Wildwood Apartments.
