Travis Mustangs learn how to build robots this year

TEMPLE, TX (KXXV) -

First it was laptops, then it was iPads and now it's robots.

This school year Travis Science Academy is getting a new and more advanced hands-on type of software learning.

"As an educator you know, our goal is to try to find things that reach the students outside the norms," said Travis Science Academy Gateway to Technology teacher, Christopher Riley.

"So robotics is a way to give kids something to do and get them a different way of thinking."

The sky is the limit once kids get this kind of education under their belts.

Riley says they can look into careers with software coding and land critical jobs in industries like NASA or the Air Force.

Riley says he is the only teacher in Bell County to teach a robotics class.

The Travis Mustangs will be entering a "Vex Robotics" competition this March.
