West High School Kicks Off Football Season

Football is king in Texas, and a source of pride in just about every town in the state.

The town of West is no exception, and as it continues to rebuild from the fertilizer plant explosion, Trojan football is also something new to focus on.

Thursday nights game was a game to remember for everyone. Parents, students and teachers all came out to support the Trojans. A few months ago, it was a different scene out there. The field was used as a triage center when the plant exploded, but now students and fans were ready to focus on the football season.

"It's our first game after the explosion and everyone's nerves are kind of shaking because it's the first game," said senior high school student Lexie Scott. "We are just getting back into the swing of things."

It wasn't a full house, but three fourths of the bleachers were filled with fans. The fans who were there were loud, helping fire up the players and add to the emotion.

"It means a whole lot, you can't believe how much support this town has had from everybody, and the show of support everybody coming out and helping everybody out," said parent Jimmy Nors.

After much dedication throughout the summer, the district kept their students and their football team where they belong, in West.

The Trojans did lose the game against Little River Academy High School, but that didn't stop the West community from cheering their players on until the end.
