Local man arrested for beating up his mother

WACO -

Police arrested a Waco man for beating up his mother because she would not babysit his child.

David Brian Harris Jr. was charged with assault by strangulation and interfering with an emergency call for an incident back on July 25.

According to the affidavit, Harris lives with his mother and girlfriend in Waco. They were at home on July 25, when David Harris asked his mother to watch his child.

His mother refused because she is in poor health and did not feel that she could look after the child at that time. The two got into an argument and David became upset and started to push and hit his mother.

David's mother tried to walk to her bedroom, but David followed her and continued to push her. Once they were in the bedroom, David pushed her onto the bed and choked her.

David's girlfriend came in to stop him, but David pushed her back. David's mother was able to stand up, but then David slammed her head against a bed post.

She then walked into the kitchen and tried to call police, but David took the phone from her before she was able to. She walked out of the house through the garage and went to her ex-husband's home about a block away.

David Harris was arrested for the incident and booked into the McLennan County Jail on Monday.
