Three arrested for assaulting Temple Police Officers

Posted:
TEMPLE -

One woman and two men were arrested for attacking two police officers that were investigating a separate assault report late Saturday night in Temple.

19-year-old Julia Hernandez was arrested for interference with the duties of a public servant, 23-year-old Rojelio Gracia was charged with aggravated assault on a public servant and 18-year-old Isaih Perez was charged with assault on a public servant. All three were from Temple.

Officers were investigating an assault report on Saturday at 11 p.m. in the 700 block of South 4th Street. While officers were on the scene, they were confronted by two intoxicated males, Gracia and Perez, and one female, Hernandez. They were not related to the initial assault call.

Gracia and Perez challenged the victims of the initial assault call to a fight. When officers intervened, the suspects challenged the officers to a fight.

The two men were told to leave the area, but they refused. One officer tried to identify the suspects and he was attacked by one of the men. One of the suspects was able to get behind the officer and strangle him. The officer nearly became unconscious.

A back up officer called for help from additional units after he was attacked by the second suspect when he tried to help the other officer.

Additional back up officers were able to gain control of the two suspects after they arrived on the scene. The woman suspect, Hernandez, physically interfered with the officers while they tried to get control of the male suspects.

The office was treated at Scott & White Hospital on Saturday and released later that night.

The cases against Gracia and Perez were presented to the Bell County District Attorney's Office on Monday and criminal complaints were issued against the suspects.
