Local man arrested for kidnapping ex-girlfriend's 3-year-old child

An 18-year-old Waco man was arrested after police say he kidnapped his ex-girlfriend's 3-year-old child.

Johnathan Andrew Sotomayor is being charged with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another felony, kidnapping and assault following a Sunday afternoon incident.

Police were called out to a home in the 800 block of Ewing about 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. They found a 22-year-old woman who had been beaten up in her home.

She told police that her ex-boyfriend, Sotomayor, had forced his way into her home, beat her up and took her 3-year-old child. She said Sotomayor was not the father of the child.

Police say Sotomayor called them about 5:30 p.m. to tell officers where they could find the child.

Officers were able to recover the child unharmed at a home near 22nd and Bosque. They took Sotomayor into custody and he remains in the McLennan County Jail.
