Father of McGregor Boy Who Drowned Shares Memories at Wake

Posted:
MCGREGOR -

A boy who drowned in a public swimming pool last Friday will be laid to rest on Saturday.

Treyvon Thomas, 12, was a well known boy who was active around the McGregor community and was involved in all different activities. His father, Ricky Thomas said it was God's time to take him.

"My son was friendly. He can make friends easily and make new friends over and over," said Ricky. "He loves to dance and sing."

Those are the memories Ricky will have of his son.

"He played video games, played with friends outside, and he loved football, kickball riding around on his bike," said Ricky. "He loved to eat cheeseburgers. That was his favorite food."

Treyvon was at a pool party last Friday. He jumped in and never came up.

News Channel 25 was able to obtain the 911 call from that night.

Dispatcher: 911?

Caller: I need someone to come to McGregor, we have someone drowning!

Dispatcher: Drowning? Ok. How old is the person? Do you know?

Caller: No.

Dispatcher: Is it a child?

Caller: Yes, it's a child. A young African-American child. We got a nurse out here doing CPR, but we need someone here stat, now!

Dispatcher: Ok, will be there in a minute.

Caller: Thanks!

He was rushed to the McLane Children's Scott and White Hospital in critical condition. A few days later, Ricky took him off life support.

Family and friends paid their respects to Treyvon, and remembered him as a caring and loving young man.

"He had a whole lot of friends around him. The whole McGregor community, everybody knew him," Ricky said. "If he got in trouble he had no choice but to listen because everybody knew him. He would have a big smile every where he went."

Ricky donated Treyvon's heart, liver and two kidneys saving three other children's lives.

Treyvon would have started 7th grade this year.

"I will miss him, but he will never be forgotten," said Ricky.
