Local girl donates money to fallen officer's family

KILLEEN -

Trista is a small girl with a big heart.

She just turned six years old, and instead of asking for birthday presents she asked for some cash.

And that cash wasn't for her piggy bank.

"I thought about the Hornsby's because I remember that their daddy died, and I wanted to give them money so that they could buy something to remember their dad by," said Trista.

Trista had her birthday guests donate money to the Hornsby family.

The Killeen Police Department lost one of their own in a tragic shoot out last month.  Officer Robert or "Bobby" Hornsby is the first Killen officer to be killed in 95 years.

The sudden loss made the risk of losing a loved one in the police force, a very real one.

"I feel like it's just made us realize everyday, it could be our last with my husband," said Jessica, whose husband is also a Central Texas police officer.

"It's very important for us to love him."
