Plane crash lands in Killeen

A pilot is forced to crash land in Killeen minutes after taking off.

The 56 year old pilot was forced to land his plane in a heavily wooded area northeast of Skylark Airfield, behind a tire repair business. The pilot was not injured.

Killeen Police and Fire Departments and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the 911 call, made by a witness who saw the plane going down, at 9:24 a.m. Saturday. They found the plane about 200 meters east of Skylark Airfield.

At first crews could not find the plane. The pilot, though, called out and led them to the plane. The pilot says he had just taken off when his plane's engines failed. Fortunately he was able to land it safely.

The Federal Aviation Administration will continue an investigation.
