Police arrest man suspected of robbing local bank last week

The man suspected of robbing the First National Bank of Central Texas on August 9 has been arrested.

Matthew James Chudej was arrested Sunday and faces federal charges for bank robbery. Chudej also has some drug charges against him.

The bank robbery happened at 1:00 p.m. at the First National Bank of Central Texas, which is located in the 1800 block of N. Valley Mills Dr.

According to police, Chudej entered First National Bank of Central Texas and approached one of the tellers. He handed the teller a note telling them this was a robbery and demanded money.

Chudej was able to get away with an undisclosed amount of cash and was seen getting into a vehicle described as a Silver Chevrolet HHR.

A woman was seen driving the getaway vehicle. The vehicle left the bank parking lot and heading in an unknown direction onto N. Valley Mills Dr.

Authorities suspect Matthew's wife, Wendy Chudej, was the getaway driver. She was arrested on Saturday for other charges and federal charges may still be brought against her.
