Gun misfire allows man to escape from attempted robbery

One man is in custody and another man is likely feeling lucky to be alive after a gun misfire allowed him to escape from an attempted robbery Tuesday night.

22-year-old Terrance Michael Carter has been charged with aggravated robbery and possession of cocaine.

Police say the victim was coming out of a convenience store in the 800 block of East Waco Dr. at 10 p.m. Tuesday night. The victim was approached by a man, later identified as Terrance Carter, who displayed a handgun and demanded money.

The victim fled, but Carter chased after him and was able to catch up to him a block away. Carter pointed the gun at the victim and pulled the trigger, but the weapon misfired and the victim was able to run and escape. The victim then called police after escaping.

According to police, Carter got into a car driven by a second suspect. The victim was able to give a good description of the car to police. Police later stopped the car in the 1700 block of Dallas Street.

Carter was arrested at the scene, but the other man in the car fled and police are still looking for him.

While filming the convenience store Wednesday, the victim's mother told a News Channel 25 crew the victim is okay is not very shaken up. But he said the gun jammed, and he's lucky to be alive.
