DPS trooper prevents carjacking in Temple

Posted:
TEMPLE -

A DPS trooper prevented a 32-year-old Azle man from carjacking a woman and a small child after he wrecked a stolen car on Saturday.

Joshua James Adams was taken into custody and charged with evading arrest and he has federal vehicle charges pending.

The incident started when the DPS was alerted that a car had been taken from a car lot in San Antonio. A tracking device in the car showed that it was going northbound on I-35, heading towards Temple.

A DPS trooper spotted the car and the driver saw the trooper. Police say the driver, Adams, panicked after seeing the trooper, along with a Belton officer and a Bell County Unit, and sped up to get away from officers.

Adams took the Midway exit at speeds in excess of 80 MPH. He also drove through a red light while driving at a high speed. The trooper cut across the grassy median to stop Adams.

Adams then lost control of his car and rolled over before ending up in the median. Adams, unhurt from the rollover, got out of his car and approached a silver SUV that had a woman and a 6-year-old child in it.

Adams opened the door and reached for the woman, but the pursuing trooper was able to pin the man between the door and the body of the car and tackle him.

After the prosecution rested just before 11 a.m., it was the defense's turn to call up witnesses. Petetan's attorney's stressed to the jury that they were...More >>
