Temple man arrested after construction work scam

TEMPLE, TX (KXXV) -
A man was arrested by the Temple Police Department on Wed., July 24, for stealing more than $1,500 while orchestrating a construction scam.

Jeremy Todd Toms claimed to be employed by "Destiny Custom Homes" and has been advertising that he'll perform work on people's homes.

A homeowner says he took the 26-year-old up on his offer, and Toms said he'd need an advance payment to buy materials.

The owner gave him $1,700, but police say Toms never came back to complete the work.  He did, however, cash the check.

Since Toms' arrest, at least two other victims have called in to Temple Police with similar stories.  They're both being actively investigated, and police suspect there are even more cases.

If you, or someone you know, has been a victim of this scam, call Temple Police at (254) 298-5500
